Ask A Genius 1015: The First Areas of Consciousness to be Mastered
Rick Rosner, American Comedy Writer, www.rickrosner.org Scott Douglas Jacobsen, Independent Journalist, www.in-sightpublishing.com Scott Douglas Jacobsen: Look at the landscape of technological development now: software, hardware, and expertise in analyzing these systems. What area of consciousness will be the first to be mastered? Because, as stated repeatedly, it’s an emergent property. So,…

idk why, but something in me tells me that post Qijiu getting together, despite SJs aversion to sex he REALLY enjoys hand jobs from YQY and YQY only. Like to the point it's a guilty pleasure
The warmth of Yue Qis large hand enveloping his di- HES GONNA BUST ONE OUT THINKING ABT IT
I’m a small dick Shen Jiu truther and a massive yaoi hands Yue Qi truther. And it just makes sense! There’s nothing consumptive about a handjob, nothing penetrating. For someone with sex based trauma, I imagine it feels safer to Shen Jiu. Metaphorically, penetration is linked to consumption, to taking. The penetrating party is seen as the giver, the penetrated party the taker. Both imply an undesirable power dynamic- the giver loses something, the taker owes something. Meanwhile, non-penetrative sex like a handjob avoids this symbolically. However, it still creates a giver-taker dynamic- one that Shen Jiu is placed at the top of! It creates a sense of power and control for him by placing him in the taker role, and at the same time implies no consumption or loss.
And also YQY has massive yaoi hands and SJ finds it incredibly hot when his dick disappears under them.

would anyone be interested in an extremely speculative and possibly incorrect essay on how Jimmy's pov distorts the events of the story, with a focus on how Daisuke and Swansea's father-son relationship is misinterpreted by him so that it can fit his version of everything that happens?

i keep thinking about the fact that unlike sy (who never even thought about how his family might feel about him dying), airplane actually had the option to go back to his family and ultimately decided not to.
like imagine being a parent and finding out that your child chose a life that didn’t have you in it.
just think about the guilt that his parents must have felt when they heard the news. each of them are enjoying time with their new families, but they haven’t spoken to their son in a while. he’s in college though so he’s probably fine. he’s not reaching out saying that he needs help or money or anything though he never asked for much when he was home either.
then they get the call. and they find out that he died alone in his apartment. he was electrocuted while trying to salvage his laptop. and they think he didn’t have to die this way. he never asked them for anything, and now they know that he desperately needed them. he never mentioned how much he struggled, and maybe he would have if they had been in contact more often. but they were too caught up in their own lives to pay attention to him.
no parent should have to out-live their child, but they distanced themselves so much from him that they couldn’t even be there for him when he died.
cough your child could have lived a long, happy, & healthy life and eventually die of old age surrounded by people they love. but instead he died when he was young and alone because he didn’t feel comfortable sharing his problems with you cough cough

SVSSS is a novel with a fandom.
[ID: A Scum Villain edit of the "missing the point" meme. A bullet arcs from velinxi art of child Shen Jiu kneeling while furiously glaring. The bullet says, "People are not entirely one thing or the other and holding them to these extremes ignores the complexities that come with their humanity." It arcs over the head of a person across from it, who ignores the bullet and exclaims: "Wow!! Shen Jiu's only crime was being mean and was wrongly hated!" End ID]

in relation to the extinction war element theories….. i have always got a sense/a vibe that suo’s backstory will be relegated to winter (i.e. we still have a long way to go lol) just because his favorite season being winter stood out to me for some reason (its also emphasized in the game, idk if this is the case for other characters).
i found something that may loosely support it, (keep in mind the possibility of confirmation bias). some species of falcon that has ranges including japan (the common kestrel and the merlin) only come to japan in winter
Tumblr media
hayato = 隼飛 (はやと) where the first character is “falcon” (hayabusa, はやぶさ, 隼) and the second is “flying” (tobi, とび, 飛)

the implications of mr compress drive me insane because i can easily read it as in some way or another, he probably felt he failed his bloodline, or that he couldn't shoulder that responsibility--- but instead, he chose to believe in someone who COULD, aka tomura. he saw revolution in a person and it was him. he could've tried to be the star of that show, but he instead raised up someone he saw great potential in, only showing the hand he was dealt when it was the end for him. i have seen a few things that imply he chose to work with tomura because of afo, but i don't think that's true, i think if anything someone of his lineage would be hesitant to do that--- afo and harima don't exactly have matching ideals, they may be radical to a degree but there's a difference between genocide and justice, and the league tomura creates has an entirely different energy to the way afo himself runs things. also if it's any level of literal that atsuhiro is inherently drawn to justice and what is right, then that implies he instinctually knew tomura had the potential to take on the legacy he felt he failed to uphold, enough so that he'd risk his life for him numerous times--- first costing him an arm, and then costing him his freedom.
judging by his words on people choosing their own fates, be they heroes or villains, as well as speaking of people's agency/personhood, it makes you wonder if he felt trapped in his own destiny too. he seems like he probably rebelled a bit when he was younger given his failed days as a magician, which doesn't feel all that prestigious for someone with his history. i can imagine he also sees himself in tomura, since they are both the heirs to some of the most prolific villains of all time--- if anyone understands the pressure he is under, it's atsuhiro. not to mention, mha has an obsession with using hands as a metaphor for things (particularly, oppression or freedom/affection), and though it's only in the anime, one of the few shots we get of kid atsuhiro is with his father's hands on his shoulders, guiding him to fulfill his legacy as harima's descendant, a thing he doesn't necessarily have a say in. it feels like it mirrors similar shots with afo and tomura, granted i'm not saying atsuhiro's father was some kind of tyrant, just that the insinuation of that pressure is there. while other villains were made by their circumstances or decisions, it was in atsuhiro's blood to rebel against the suffocating system they were born into.
him and tomura both having hand quirks also makes me think of another way they're similar. compression is a quirk that can be as dangerous as it is useful. we see that it can effortlessly maim others, which begs the question, what was it like learning that quirk? surely not easy or without consequence. that takes a lot of skill and precision. i think because of that, atsuhiro also makes for someone who probably wouldn't be afraid of or disgusted by tomura's quirk, which adds a further level of intimacy to them. he doesn't just see someone who destroys everything around him--- he sees new beginnings, and has the knowledge that from death, comes life itself. considering, despite his obvious skills in such, he isn't very keen on being a thief or violent for that matter, i feel like he's one of the few people to see and understand that tomura is not just the aggression and expectations that were made by afo--- he is his own person.
it also strikes me as suspicious that even though they needed as many allies as possible, he was never broken out of prison while other much more difficult people were pursued--- in the past he spoke out against the mistreatment of tomura and i feel like afo likely knew he was a risk to keep around, in the event he could not fully control tomura. so for as useful as he was, and could be, he was a liability, a part of tomura's humanity that couldn't be risked, especially when spinner was still around.
Tumblr media
to close out, i don't think this was a last ditch effort, i think this is what he always knew to be his final act, he knew the curtain would fall with tomura, not him. tragically, he also probably knew none of them would realistically survive, but i think it was that fire that he saw in tomura--- a fire that could rival his great-great-grandfather--- that made him want to believe in him and drove him to do as much as he could. for all his theatrics and at times ridiculousness, his final act makes him feel like such a classically romantic character, someone willing to give everything up for the person he trusts and respects the most. i'll just never get over how utterly heart-wrenching it is to see atsuhiro's final panel be that wistful smile, still stuck in the same society that worships heroes.

#atsutomu#shigpress#shigapress#mr compress#mr. compress#atsuhiro sako#mha#sako atsuhiro#bnha#mister compress#boku no hero academia#my fanfics#my hero academia#flynn speaks#sometimes i go off about shigpress on twitter but this one was specially crafted for tumblr because of word limits#of course i've seen a few people analyze this in the past and say similar points but lmao#i'm honestly surprised the like fandom wiki for shig and his relationships includes plainly stating that atsuhiro felt like tomura could#take on the legacy of harima because it doesn't feel like anyone remembers that or it's just glossed over#while i have my qualms with how atsuhiro ended up; in a way it only makes sense. in his mind it was his mission to uplift tomura to victory#the others had their own reasons for their actions but atsuhiro's almost entirely revolve around believing in tomura to change society#which i guess for better or for worse parts of tomura's fate do that. but imagine how devastating it is to be atsuhiro#if he ever is let out of prison i can't imagine him being anything but a vigilante which imo i believe he was one prior to the league#just sad that even after all that hero society is still a game of money and theatrics. also there's the question of how are villains treate#like we already saw they're basically put into Hell incarnate and the system is rigged#i really would find it hard to believe it'd get any better. if anything the extreme decline of villains post-canon feels concerning#honestly they both make each other's stories more tragic#i would dare to tag this with the regular compress tags but this is mostly a character analysis directly regarding him with tomura#well actually fuck it i guess

Warriors is especially cool cause i think unchecked, musicals have a tendency toward conservative morality, specifically anticollectivism. real collectivism is enormous and messy work with endless fault points, but the most powerful shift in worldview toward it is how you cast your villains.
we can spend all news cycle figuring out who it's more progressive to see an evil in, but the real trick of the thing is seeing power in systems more than people, both good power and bad power. the belief of musicals that present conflicting ideologies and choose a winner is implicitly telling us our problem is the ideologies of other people. and what kind of world does that mobilize?
those who build walls are afraid of people. those who build bridges are afraid only of walls.
Warriors has a villain whose motivation so so explicitly does not matter, and the real conflict is the fragility of peace. Cleon's distinguishing philosophy of leadership is being able to look at a monster in front of her and see through him to the code, to the imbalance in the ecosystem. it's not Warriors vs. Luther, it's getting home alive vs. a city where the Luthers hold so much power. there's no good guys' eloquent arguments vs. bad, there's how easy it is to take a life in america vs. the fact that everyone everyone everyone the Warriors encounter on the journey home believes in Cyrus.

Ohh my god I just realized something The Signalis gameplay trailer is fucking genius. It basically encourages you to play in a way that lowers your chances of getting the "Promise" ending on the first playthrough. It doesn't encourage you to play like Elster - it encourages you to evaluate the situation like a Protektor would.
Tumblr media
I mean, it's straight up styled as an in-universe emergency broadcast that Protektor Units would hear in the event of an enemy attack or emergency where a facility's integrity would be compromised.
Tumblr media
This specific little tidbit basically encourages you to play in a way that ACTIVELY lowers your chances of getting the Promise ending, making it more likely you'll get Memory or Leave on your first run. Sure, you still need to weigh your chances in combat if you're aiming to fulfill your promise, but you need to put down as many corrupted Replikas as you can afford if you want to rack up the points necessary for that ending. The trailer encourages players to value self-preservation above all else. Which, y'know, that's how you usually aim to play games - you need to avoid getting hurt and you need to avoid dying, you seek the most efficient way to get to the end, but if you want the Promise ending you need to go out of your way to get hurt and die several times. You need to spend as much time as possible in the game. You need to be thorough. You need to leave nothing behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Point being, I think this is exactly why she doesn't remember her. The whole playthrough, you've basically been Elster in name alone. You haven't been acting like the Elster she knows. You've been dealing with the whole situation like any Replika Protektor unit would have. In her eyes, you may have been an LSTR - an extremely resourceful, versatile combat Replika, but you're not the Elster - the one who spent all those years rotting with Ariane on the Penrose, forever changed by what they shared on that one-way trip beyond the Oort cloud. Elster would raze S-23 Sierpinski just to get to her. She'd leave nothing behind. She'd die over and over if that's what it takes to finally put an end to this. What stands before her is just another stranger, another Replika, not the person she's spent all those years with. You have to show you're not just another stranger with Elster's memories. You need to prove you are her. You need to treat all of this like she would. You need to prove you remember your promise. You need to prove you value your promise. You need to prove you have become the person you need to be to end this. The loop won't end until it's molded you into the person you need to be. At least, that's how I see it.

I just have the mental image of a mopey Roman being dragged around.
Rn, have the strongest image of Virgil gripping one of Roman's hands and Janus is grabbing the other.

Most confusing thing to me in the world about TF: One discourse/analyses/fandom takes is people saying that it's a bad thing that Orion hijacked the Iacon 5000 with Megatron and broke protocol to go looking for what happened to the Primes. Like y'all isn't this fandom constantly screaming about the demonization of revolutionaries and how good it is to rebel against authority? Or are people so conditioned to blaming Optimus for everything and framing Megatron as a victim that they just automatically repeated it in TF: One even if it's inconsistent with their previous analyses of all continuities?
Like... Orion jumping the gun on all of his plans and dragging Dee into them is "bad" in the sense that it causes tension in their relationship and pushed Dee further onto his radical path partially because he wanted to strike his own path and stop following Orion through everything. It's not bad that Orion wanted to challenge social norms by showing that people without cogs can be just as competent/talented as people with cogs?? It's not bad that Orion wanted to search for the truth about what happened to the Primes instead of just blindly trusting Sentinel???? When Dee got mad at Orion and ranted about how "you just HAD to break protocol" you weren't meant to go "wow he's so right, Orion is so bad for wanting to break social norms even if it gets him into trouble" you were meant to go "wow Dee is having a mental breakdown about being lied to and lashing out at the only person he currently has the power to lash out at." What are we doing here.
